Deadheading is the process of removing flowers from a plant that have finished blooming. This is done to maintain the plant’s appearance and to encourage more blooms. When a plant is finished flowering, it begins to form seeds, and the energy that would have gone into producing new seeds is redirected into generating more flowers instead. This can lead to a second bloom or multiple blooms over the course of the growing season. Basically, it is done to prevent the plant from using up all the nutrition and energy for the flower/ fruit that has already bloomed.
